A Beginner's Guide to Landscape Designs

Home is a place where we can sit back and relax after a long day of work. The stress and pain releases when we reach home and the happiness is doubled if there are flowers and plants to make our mind more peaceful. So to achieve this peace of mind landscaping a home is almost compulsory. Most of the people take it as a challenge and try to revamp their garden or the front area of their house by planting more and more greenery. But landscape design is an art and is much more than just putting pots around.

How It's Done:

Landscape design can be done in any type of space whether small or large, as long as the effort is just right. It should not be overdone or underdone either.

1. For Larger Area:

  1. First of all, analyse your house and the space you have around your house.

  2. Make a list of what you want to plant – e.g. whether you want to plant flowers or veggies or both and also make a list of things that are required to start landscaping.

  3. Select the area where you want to plant your flowers. But always remember that they should be planted in such a way that makes your entrance look lively

  4. Try planting flowers that have small heights because tall plants often look unkempt without proper trimming and they also occupy a lot of space

  5. Select areas for veggies where they can get proper light and water. Always choose seasonal vegetables.

  6. If you want to plant trees, you should plant it near your boundaries and it should be in proper alignment.

  7. A fountain at the centre of your garden always gives great pleasure to your eyes as it enhances the beauty of the area. It doesn't matter if it is a big fountain or a small one but it will be the talk of the town. Construct or place some chairs and table near the fountain, it will certainly be a nice place to enjoy your evening snacks.

Now if you have a large space around your house then creating landscape design becomes easier as you can design it in a systematic way without making it look clumsy.

2. For Smaller Spaces:

It's a bit tricky to create a landscape design for small areas as it requires a lot of brainstorming to start designing but it can be done successfully with some effort.

  1. People staying in a flat or a house where there is no space can also try this art. First of all, analyze the space inside your flat or house and finalize the area where you want your flowers to breathe properly and get proper sunlight.

  2. Artificial grass can be placed in the balcony area with some flowers like rose or poppy around it in a flower pot to make it look like a garden.

  3. Plastic flower pots can also be used to plant flowers as it can be hung by the roof of the balcony with the help of ropes.

Things That Should Be Avoided for Landscape Designs:

  1. Never fill your garden area with flowers and trees as it will make the place look clumsy and you won't have space to enjoy the beauty of your garden.

  2. Plant trees with small roots near your boundaries because some trees like Mango trees will end up cracking your boundaries as its roots are very big and capable of breaking the building.

  3. Do not choose vegetables which require more water. Always choose plants which require less water and effort to look beautiful.
