Pictures have the power to capture your most important and intimate moments with your family and loved ones. Picture framing can get very costly depending on the type of wood you’re choosing for the frame. The idea of making your own frame is always appreciated. They leave an impact on the ones who you’re gifting it. Even though it is a little time consuming; but it also adds that extra aesthetic touch to your living room wall.
Three simple steps to be followed in order make your own picture frame
Picture framing takes a lot of time, but it is fun to make beautiful frames for your loved ones. The four essentials of a picture frame are a cardboard for the back support, four wooden sides for the frame, a glass sheet for the cover and last but not the least; the photograph. Given below are broad three steps which can be followed:
Place a mat at the back of your photograph for support. You can paste a colored cardboard or even a colored photograph behind your photo. Using a contrasting colored mat will also give a better vision of the photograph. To choose the correct size of the mat, first measure the size of your photo; the size of the mat should be more than the photograph itself, say about an inch or more.
Mark the measurements on the mat and later on cut out on the extra sides. Make sure that the corners are even and also try using a thicker material for the mat. Choosing a thick material will give it a professional look. Once you’ve drawn the border of the mat, cut out the inside portion with a paper cutter. Remove the inside part of the mat and then you should carefully place the photograph on it. Paste the photograph in an upside format i.e.; keeping the face of the photograph downwards on the map.
The second most important part is to make the wooden frame. Based on your budget, select the material if your preference. You can either go for wood or metal. If you’re on a big budget, then go for good quality of wood. The wood shape and size vary. You can choose molded wood for your frame. Moulded woods are more finished and professional. It gives your frame a superior touch. If you’re making a small frame, then lumber wood will do fine for you.
Moving on to the next most important aspect is which wood type you should go for. Based on the look you want to give to your frame; the wood type also varies. Hardwoods are long-lasting. You can either choose quality over appearance or you can choose the same wood type which you’ve chosen for your furniture and shelves. If you wish to choose metal, then always cut the metal with a saw. For sticking the wooden or metal sides, use wood glue or hot glue. You can easily buy them from any hardware or furniture store. Depending on the size of the frame, choose the size of the nails wisely.
Once the wooden sides are stuck to one another, you can paint them if you want to. Once the frame is done, fix the glass inside the frame. The size of the glass will be an inch smaller than the frame. Place the mat underneath the glass and attach it with nails on the wooden frame. You can decorate the borders with sequins if you wish to. Last but not the least, hang the frame on the wall with a small hook.
