What are Plaster Mouldings?
The plaster molding is similar to sand molding. It is the process in which plaster of paris instead of sand, is normally poured into a metal frame of the desired shape. It can also be used on non-ferrous material.
The plaster of Paris we use is not the pure form of plaster. It normally is mixed with other additives to make it strong, add green strength, dry strength, permeability, and stability. Talc and magnesium oxide are added to reduce the time of setting. The expansion during baking is reduced by adding lime. Cement and glass fiber helps straighten the material and finally sand works as filler for decorative plaster moulding suppliers.
How is the Pattern made?
To make patterns, the metal and rubber molds from decorative plaster mouldings suppliers are used. Metal frames are used for simpler work and for complex designs, the rubber mold is used.
The rubber mold is much better than the metal frames as it is easy to manipulate and change the design as per your wish. Also, it happens to be very cheap and can be used repeatedly. These are easily replaceable and more accurate than the metal molds.
What is the Process of Making the Mold?
Firstly, a solution of plaster is made.
Secondly, the metal frame of the mold is sprayed with a very thin film which helps to prevent the sticking of any material on the frame.
Afterwards, the plaster is poured into the unit and then the whole unit is shaken, this is done to ensure that all the nooks of the frame get filled properly.
It is left for 15 minutes to dry.
Next, once it has completely dried, it is baked, on the temperature between 120 °C and 260 °C. It is done to remove the water from the mold.
The mold is then assembled, re heated and the metal is poured.
Once the metal becomes solid, the plaster is removed from the cast. Once the plaster is used it cannot be reused.
